stamen (ITX throwback machine)
Summary
Leftover parts from dismantled machines. Board, CPU, and RAM were going to be sold, but then this case became available after dreadnought moved into an ATX case.
Notes
- I removed the onboard (usb based) WiFi adapter to free up an extra USB header.
- Needs a USB 3.0 header to 2.0 adapter to make the front ports usable (only as 2.0 ports). I could pass through the rear 3.0 ports, but it would leave no rear 3.0 ports.
- Need a very short optical drive solution. My 6.75" drives won't fit. Possibly a 6" drive will, but I might have to resort to a right angle SATA power adapter.

Log
Old hardware in a newer chassis
I was going to get rid of this motherboard/cpu/ram combo, but I upgraded dreadnought to an ATX case so I had this spare InWin BP691 ITX case.
The hardware is a bit dated, but I thought it might be fun to have a slight throwback machine.
The first issue I ran into is the lack of USB 3.0 header, but the case has only 3.0 front ports. This board was very early in 3.0 adoption with only two rear ports. After looking at the WiFi card I realized it was using a USB header, and I could free that up then use an adapter. Still need to acquire the adapter, but I pulled the WiFi card.
I started assembly, and things were going pretty well. I had a couple issues with clearance due to the large heatsink. It partially interfered with some extra rear USB 2.0 ports I put on the case, and more importantly it interfered with installing an optical drive.
For now I left out the optical drive until I can find a solution. My ideal would be a compact 5.25" slot loading drive. Next I'd try maybe a 5.25" to slim ODD adapter and a slot loading laptop drive.
