AGPtEK USB3.0 1080p 60fps Capture

Description

This is a USB 3.0 HDMI capture device with loop out.

It appears as: 1bcf:2c99 Sunplus Innovation Technology Inc.

It has a plastic enclosure, a USB A 3.0 port, and two HDMI ports.

Internally there is probably:

  • VXIS VS2828 USB controller
  • VXIS VS9989 Video Processor
  • ITE IT6801FN HDMI 1.4 Receiver
  • ITE IT66121FN HDMI 1.4 3D Low Power Transmitter

I can't identify the USB controller due to lasered markings. The video processor's marking were also lasered, but are slightly visible with the right light and angle. I'm not 100% sure it is VS9989, it could also be VS9988.

Notes

HDMI Receiver/Transmitter are supposed to have built-in HDCP keys. Have not verified

VXIS USB3 HDMI Capture Firmware Mod has some interesting soft-mods to fix some limitations:

  • Disable black point adjustment
  • Disable sharpness/contrast/color processing
  • Fix chroma

I definitely noticed the sharpness and black level issues before.

I played about with it a bit. You should probably read the wiki about the bytes being modified, and also run the -r command to read the value before writing it. Sometimes I had issues with the picture going completely black, or very dark when playing with these settings. It didn't always seem to revert when resetting the device.

Anyway, it appears the settings are non-permanent, and will be reset when the device is unpowered (may required disconnecting HDMI source too). I didn't verify completely though so you should probably make notes of current settings, and fully understand the documented values before making such changes.

I'm still not impressed by the images this device can capture. With the sharpness filter off it just has different artifacts that are still obvious.
